She needs to find food and a warm dry place to sleep for Aiden and herself. The only person not turning her away is Madame Taylor, owner of a favored London whorehouse. Cami is reluctantly wiling to trade her body for her brother's safety. Hearing of the death of his close friend and his wife, Lord Charles Ainsley, recently returned from the Orient, goes in search of the missing Bentleigh children. When he finds out where they have ended up, Lord Charles races to the house of ill repute. Shocked by the soft beauty of his friend's now grown daughter, he buys Cami's services for the night, hoping to protect her for until he can liberate Cami and Aiden the next morning. Cami is told by Madame Taylor's ladies to beware men too handsome for a woman's own good. Charles feels guilt over not being able to protect the orphaned children but greater guilt over his attraction to his friends' daughter. Can they get past the misconceptions each harbor of their twisted circumstances or will Charles never be able to come to terms with his feelings concerning Cami? |
